Hi friends, my name is Jane, and I’m the owner and designer behind Poppy Mountain Gems. The name was inspired by California’s state flower, the California poppy, and my lifelong connection to the mountains. My love for jewelry began long before Poppy Mountain Gems came to life. As a child, I spent hours making friendship bracelets and collecting rocks wherever my family and I traveled. That early fascination with tiny treasures grew into a lifelong love of natural elements, gemstones, and creating beautiful things by hand.

From wind-carved ocean cliffs to the quiet beauty of alpine forests, nature continues to inspire the colors, textures, and materials I choose for my designs. For me, making jewelry is a way to slow down, work with my hands, and transform simple materials into something meaningful. I love the idea that a piece of jewelry can become more than just an accessory. It can hold a memory, reflect someone’s personal style, or tell a story all its own.

My Materials & Creative Process

I’m especially drawn to natural gemstones, pearls, sea glass, shells, and other treasures, each with its own unique beauty and character. I pair these elements with copper, gold-filled metals, and sterling silver, allowing the natural character of each material to guide my designs.

I carefully select the materials for each design and create every piece by hand. Depending on the design, my process may include shaping, wrapping, hammering, soldering, or setting stones, always with close attention to detail. There’s no mass production or rushing the process, just the time and care needed to create something special. Because of this hands-on approach, no two pieces are exactly alike. Natural materials and handcrafted details give each design its own subtle variations and character. My hope is that every piece becomes something you’ll love wearing for years to come, wherever life takes you.

My Philosophy

I believe that creating something beautiful should also come with a responsibility to care for the world around us. At Poppy Mountain Gems, I strive to make thoughtful choices, from the materials I use to the way I package and present each piece. I’m always looking for ways to reduce waste, reuse materials when possible, and make more sustainable choices as my collection grows. Sustainability isn’t just a trend to me. It’s part of how I honor the landscapes that inspire my work.
